Boat Filled With Immigrants Turned Away From Ellis Island

New York, NY – One hundred twenty-two immigrants were returned to an ocean liner that carried them from Sweden to New York. According to Immigration and Naturalization department spokesman Eurebus Clay, the immigrants all failed to pass an oral examination designed to determine their suitability to enter the country. Said Clay, “Question number 23 reads ‘Do you support the overthrow of the United States government through violent or seditious means?’ Sixty-two answered seditious while sixty answered violent.”
